Ebenezer Relief Society helps immigrant and refugee families in Calgary settle and thrive.
We are a Calgary, Alberta nonprofit built around one word: help. Here is where that word comes from, and what it means for the families we serve.
A stone raised to mark where help arrived.
The name Ebenezer comes from the Hebrew language and means “helper stone.” It is drawn from the biblical account in 1 Samuel 7:12, where the prophet Samuel raised a stone as a lasting marker of the help his people received in a moment of great need. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
We carry that name because it describes exactly what we try to do for immigrant and refugee families across Calgary and Alberta. Ebenezer Relief Society exists to provide aid and support to individuals and communities facing hardship, and to be a steady reminder that help is available when it is needed most.
Today that means six core programs, from skill and language training to sports development, medical and food relief, and community development, alongside three services addressing mental health awareness, youth development, and spiritual guidance. Together, they walk alongside a family building a new life in Canada.
